Should the Melbourne Cup be scrapped? No ratings yet.

When I was younger I use to look forward to watching the Melbourne Cup. It use to be a time when we could just relax, eat unlimited amounts of food and run around.

As I got older and went to more functions it turned out that I wasn’t having as much fun as I use too.

In the last few years the Melbourne Cup has seen so many deaths with horses. So I ask the question should we scrap the Melbourne Cup?

A staggering amount of money has gone into the advertising and setup of the Cup each year, an entire state stops for one day.

The Melbourne Cup use to stop a nation now it divides a nation.

There have been several deaths in the past five years of the glamour race.

In 2014, Admire Rakti, who collapsed and died in his stall after the race, and Araldo, who broke his leg and was euthanised, were casualties.

The following year fan favourite Red Cadeaux shattered a leg and was put down on the track.

Last year, Regal Monarch died after a sickening fall in another race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

I can’t sit by and let animals die for the enjoyment of others.
