The road to redemption

I’ve committed so many crimes and I’ve served my time.

I’ve changed my ways and turned to God. I’ve changed who I am not what I am if that makes sense.

When you spend two years of your life just thinking about the past it dawns on you that if you don’t change you will remain in a pit of hell and torture.

About 12 months ago I got into a fight whilst at Port Augusta. It was a pretty big fight and as many punches, they got in I also was able to get the same back. But this wasn’t an even fight, there was six on one and eventually, they overcame me and I lost. Whilst I was down my brothers in arms saw what was going on and came running to save me.

As they say blood in blood out and they would protect their blood brother.

Yes it was evil what they did to my attackers and I don’t condone what they did but as they say, you protect the brotherhood at all costs.

My senior brother asked me a few days later how I felt. I was lost, upset and I wanted revenge. He turned to me and told me that this life comes at a cost and he believed I had something better else to turn too.

With his blessing, I left my brothers behind me and turned to a new brotherhood, something that would last when we are all but gone.

My new leader was our Lord and Saviour. When I admitted my sins and asked for forgiveness he gave it to me. He picked my broken and smashed heart and mended it. He gave me a new purpose in life, to help others and bring them out of the life of crime.

In the next few weeks, I want to write about the injustice of the Correctional Services, the real story of jail system from the viewpoint of a prisoner and talk about the heartbreaking stories of ill-treatment and misinformation.

Before I go I wanted to share with you the following:

Matthew 11:28-30 New International Version (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

May God Bless you all.

Love

Abel
